Hollywood has a long history of turning heroic true stories into cinematic thrillers. The best of them take harrowing stories of danger and make them resonant to audiences sitting comfortably in theaters or, increasingly, on their couches. They take us there through time and geography, and often ask us what we would do in the same situation, whether we would rise to the occasion and be heroes ourselves.

And the really great ones offer something that a non-fiction book cannot, grounding true stories in high drama with three-dimensional characters who feel real. They remind us of the humanity embedded in heroism. It turns real heroes into generic tropes and real victims into manipulative props. Great hero stories leave the viewer feeling inspired by the potential within the human condition.

This one will just leave you depressed. The tone of the film is set by its opening scene, in which we watch Ethiopians fleeing gun-toting villains to nearby trucks. Of course, a child is missing. The Israeli government will purchase an abandoned fishing resort on the coast of the Sudan — the one that gives the film its title — and his team will use it to free those still stuck in Ethiopia.

While on duty and touring through the waters of the Red Seathe Chinese Navy patrol fleet receives a distress call that Somalian pirates are boarding a cargo ship called the Guangdong and endangering Chinese passengers and seamen on board. They immediately deploy the 8-person Jiaolong Assault Team as their forward unit to try to slow the progress of the pirates until the heavily armed naval vessels can arrive on the scene. Using the assistance of a forward helicopter and a sniper dispatched as part of the assault team, they make significant progress to neutralize the situation and manage to eliminate all the Somali pirates onboard while awaiting the main Chinese fleet on duty in the Red Sea.

During the operations, the pirate leader attempts to escape, and though eventually he was captured, their primary sniper receives a crippling spinal injury from gunfire during the pursuit and must be replaced.

The assault team is praised for their success once the main fleet arrives. Later, when the civil war situation in the nation of Yewaire on the Arabian Peninsula becomes unstable, orders are given to evacuate local Chinese personnel and workers from the country.

Given the unrest and threats from rebels and local terrorist groups, the Jiaolong Assault team is assigned the task of evacuating the Chinese citizens to safety aboard the main Chinese naval vessels in temporary harbor in the area.

Meanwhile, a Chinese-French journalist working in the area receives news that the local terrorist organization, Zaka, are prepared to impede local cooperation with the Chinese by all available military and terrorist means available. The Jiaolong squad manages to save the Chinese civilians caught in the warzone and the PAP gendarmerie forces guarding the ambassador just in a nick of time while also saving an Arabic man forced to participate as a car bomber.

The terrorists are also uncovered to have plans to weaponize yellowcake materials into a dirty bomb. The eight-person forward assault team is given very poor support by the local government which is in turmoil.

They must also relocate the Yewaire civilians working there to a safe deployment area 75 miles away using only a jeep convoy for transportation. The convoy is ambushed by terrorists, and takes significant losses from a trained sniper and mortar attacks. All the Moroccan civilians and local government troops are killed, except the journalist. Zaka uses a kidnapped Chinese citizen as a bargaining chip so that the Chinese navy will release the Yewairian President, and beheads another hostage as an example.

Jiaolong and the journalist track down the hostage first priority of the mission to a terrorist stronghold with militants, the local leader Sayyid, and armed with mechanized artillery and tanks.

The assault team moves in with a risky plan involving covertly swapping the Chinese hostage and the journalist. Although the initial plan goes well at first, the plan backfires when the jeep the team uses gets a flat tire attracting attention, with no other choice the Jialong commandos are forced to reveal themselves and fight off hordes of terrorists in the compound.

Eventually the Jiaolong commandos are separated with 1 team escaping in a jeep, another in a tank and another attempting to escape through another exit. The enemy sniper from earlier reappears; the replacement Jiaolong sniper and his spotter are able to take him out. The operation eventually succeeds in evacuating all the hostages, but two Jiaolong members are killed in action during the chaos and another two are heavily injured.

The four remaining members later wingsuit into the yellowcake exchange site between the terrorists and the rebel group. Zaka backstabs the rebels, and in the chaos the Chinese operatives manage to corner the terrorist leader, who commits suicide. Jiaolong retrieves the dirty bomb recipe and captures the cargo plane carrying the yellowcake.

Moses parted the Red Sea

Genre: Doentary. His latest film looks at the Exodus miracle of the parting of the Red Sea.

Kingdom Under the Sea-the Red Tide

The biblical account of the parting of the Red Sea is found in Exodus 14 and details the Israelites' escape from slavery led by Moses as the Egyptian army pursued them. The following is an edited transcript of The Christian Post's interview with Mahoney who has been investigating biblical accounts for over 20 years.

Most Christians visualize the Charlton Heston version of that account, which you said you have also done. Can you explain the two positions? In this new film, we identified what we termed an Egyptian Approach which believes that the Exodus account borrowed Egyptian words to describe the crossing location.

And they believe these words point to the crossing at one of the reedy lakes near the border of Egypt. The other viewpoint we call the Hebrew Approach disagrees with a near Egypt location. They believe that the words used to describe the location where Moses and the Israelites crossed are Hebrew words and do not have a connection to Egypt.

They also point to other biblical references that place the sea of the Exodus at the Gulf of Aqaba. CP: In the film you also explain the importance of the Hebrew and Egyptian translations of individual words when discussing the parting of the sea account. How revealing was the actual translation in your research? CP: What were you most surprised to find out about the parting of the sea? Mahoney: This is the first film of a two-part film event. The Red Sea Miracle part 1 in theaters on Feb.

The Egyptian Approach sees the parting as a naturalistic event where wind was the agent and it moved water naturally. The miracle would be in the timing. The Hebrew Approach primarily believes that the miracle was not only caused by wind but that God miraculously parted the water. The depth of the water would not be a problem for the God of the Bible who created the universe. CP: What would you like for others to take from this new installment of Patterns of Evidence?

Mahoney: We all are faced with difficult times in our lives, when we think we are not going to make it.The film is loosely based on the evacuation of the foreign nationals and almost Chinese citizens from Yemen 's southern port of Aden during late March in Yemeni Civil War. Here, we provide a glimpse of the opening personalities and questions that will engage viewers. Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the LORD drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.

The Exodus event is the greatest story of redemption in the Hebrew Bible. The biblical narrative has captured the imagination of filmmakers and inspired countless numbers of people throughout history.

This miracle is the Red Sea crossing. But was this event the large-scale miracle depicted by Cecil B.

red sea movie

DeMille in his epic film, The Ten Commandments? Could it be that the Red Sea crossing was actually the small scale experience of tens of thousands of oppressed Hebrew slaves, near Egypt, and resulting from naturalistic forces such as an ordinary wind? Or, was the Red Sea crossing more along the lines depicted by DeMille in The Ten Commandments where an impossible deliverance of millions of people, through an untraversable deep sea, miraculously occurred?

This much anticipated film is the third installment in the Patterns of Evidence franchise, produced by Thinking Man Films under the direction of filmmaker Tim Mahoney. The contribution of this installment to the Patterns of Evidence series is that it addresses key questions related to the most significant event of the Exodus journey — the Red Sea crossing.

The film opens by introducing some of the challenges involved in the investigation, as well as some of the key players in the discussion. I was there to investigate the route Moses and the Israelites would have taken in the exodus out of Egypt. I thought this would be a one-year project, but here it is 20 years later. The story continued to grow year after year as I interviewed archaeologists, theologians and scientists with many different theories.

Whether the Red Sea parted is a miracle. Whether the ten plagues happened is a miracle. Archeology cannot prove or disprove a miracle. Mahoney realized that this investigation would be filled with miracles.

No one else has been able to do it over the last years. He thought the greatest stories were in the Bible. Two geographers are featured in the production.

Operation Red Sea

My first question as a geographer is where was the sea of the Exodus? Where was this sea that was parted and crossed? And you also can bring your family to see this faith-affirming film with powerful evidence matching the Bible. So, it is rare that I get a shot of excitement when I watch a film that attempts to cover such topics. This movie genuinely surprised me. It is scholarly, but thoroughly engaging at the same time.

But most of all it tries to be faithful to Scripture. If you are a person who realizes that the Bible has changed the world and wants to share in that mission, then bring everyone you know to see this upcoming film.
