I'm having issues with my Windows server R2. The thing is that every morning there's no Internet connection for the server. I couldn't download the latest drivers for this adapter as Intel is telling me that I don't have anything Intel related on my server Trying the Windows 7 version of that, there's no Windows server R2 version available. I found a cheap way of fixing the problem, which is a command that's being done every 6 AM. But this is not the way of doing it.

Any way other way to fix the problem?

How can I troubleshoot this issue, spiceheads? Thank you! Sounds like a software or configuration problem. Try pinging another machine on the same switch, then try pinging one on the next tier up.

Possible the switchport is bad as well. It could be hardware, but I'm not sold. Bottom line here, though; be mindful that if you're not making any progress you should escalate--or, if you can't--replace the gear.

It's not resource efficient to get too invested on stuff like this. Your labor isn't cheap. Always remember the value you represent to the business and when your time is better spent replacing rather than fixing. We had a PC doing something similar. Even though the IP was statically assigned in Windows, when the lease came up, it would revert to a address. Once I removed the Windows assigned static address and assigned it via DHCP reservation, we quit having the connection issues. Intel is the standard NIC driver for VMWare, as far as I know, this does not mean that the actual networkcard in your system is a 'proper' intel card.

Could be a realtek or another brand. So check the specs of your server for the networkcard installed and use the corresponding driver. It is the default. Any drivers from Intel would be looking for a physical card and so shouldn't be used. Gary is right. The intel adapter should really only be used when you have to such as with certain virtual appliances. To continue this discussion, please ask a new question. Windows Server 2012: VMXNet3 not detected during setup

Best regards, Aleksei. Best Answer. Pure Capsaicin.I am using virtual network adaptor which works on my other windows VMs on my vmware workstation such as AD, and Either no network adapters are physically connected to the system, or a suitable driver could not be located.

A third party driver may be required. Ensure that there is at least one network adapter physically connected to the system before attempting installation.

If the problem persists, consult the VMware Knowledge Base. I went to hp.

Still I am not sure is this the correct driver, or not. Thanks for the hints. Either one would "work" but the Dell version may give you some more tools hardware monitors that you might be able to use.

Best to use the Dell version. I would install using the Dell version. They have already injected the drivers. Why reinvent the wheel? That adapter isn't on the HCL so I can't see it ever working. However, if there is a VIB driver file for it then give it a go. VIB's are extensions and drivers. I am not using physical adaptor fo my VM.

I just said my network card on my physical server is Intel. If you're installing onto physical then you make sure that everything is on the HCL. If it's not then it's not supported and won't work. Thanks carltm, I went through the process. I uninstalled one NIC from the list however, I could not uninstall several Miniport entries - at least they did not disappear. I also uninstalled a NIC shown under computer hardware. VMWare tools are still not available from the workstation menu. Also, see if you have a cdrom installed in the vm. If not, add one. In the Services snap-in, you configure the Telnet Server service to log on by using the Local System account.

Additionally, you do not select the Allow service to interact with desktop checkbox. In this scenario, when you try to install the driver through Device Manager, the attempt fails, and you receive the following error message: Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.

This problem occurs because the Telnet Server service makes some security-related permission changes during initialization to the window station that it is running in.

If you configure the Telnet Server service to run by using the Local System account without the ability to interact with the desktop, the service starts under a different window station. This may cause conflicts with other processes that also run under the Local System account and that do not interact with the desktop, such as the installation process for a new device driver.

To work around this problem, do not run the Telnet Server service under the Local System account. We recommend that you leave the Telnet Server service to run under its default Local Service account. If this does not temporarily fix the problem, verify that the latest version of VMWare Tools is installed. Note A Command Prompt window opens. Install the latest version of VMWare Tools. Verify that the Telnet Service logon setting is set correctly.
